At Counselling with Marie G, I offer a compassionate, trauma-informed approach that recognises the deep connection between our past experiences and the patterns we live out today. My work is grounded in the belief that lasting change begins with awareness of the unconscious stories we carry, the wounds that shaped us, and the ways we learned to protect ourselves.

Drawing on trauma-informed practice, attachment theory, and Jungian psychology, I help clients explore the patterns of behaviour, emotion, and relationship that may feel confusing, overwhelming, or stuck. Together, we look beneath the surface - not only at the struggles you face, but at the unmet needs, hidden strengths, and deeper meanings that lie underneath them.

This isnโ€™t about quick fixes. Itโ€™s about creating a safe space where you can slow down, feel seen, and reconnect with the parts of yourself that have been silenced or left behind. Through this process, you can learn to understand your triggers, regulate emotions, heal from shame, and cultivate healthier ways of relating to yourself, to others, and to life.

Welcome! Iโ€™m Marie, and Iโ€™m so glad youโ€™re here.

For much of my life, Iโ€™ve been deeply curious about why we do the things we do, why patterns repeat, and how our past continues to shape our present. My own journey has been one of searching, healing, and slowly learning how to live with greater self-awareness, compassion, and trust.

Before becoming a counsellor, I spent 25 years in the hair and beauty industry, a career where I learned the importance of listening, connection, and holding space for peopleโ€™s stories. What I didnโ€™t realise at the time was how much those conversations and connections were preparing me for the work I do now.

My path into counselling has been shaped not just by study, but by lived experience. Like many, Iโ€™ve carried wounds from childhood, navigated relationships that challenged me, and wrestled with the feelings of guilt, shame, and anger that come with wanting to break old cycles. These challenges became my teachers. Theyโ€™ve given me deep empathy, and a real understanding of how hard it can be to find your voice and your place in the world.

As a counsellor, I bring warmth, honesty, and a belief in the power of self-discovery. I draw inspiration from Carl Jungโ€™s work, exploring the unconscious patterns that quietly shape our lives, and I combine this with a compassionate, grounded approach that meets you where you are.

I believe healing happens not through perfection, but through connection, when we feel safe enough to be seen, to speak, and to reconnect with the parts of ourselves weโ€™ve left behind. My role is to walk alongside you as you explore your story, uncover your patterns, and begin to trust yourself again.

Past experiences - from childhood wounds to sudden life events, can leave lasting marks on the nervous system. Trauma-informed counselling can help with PTSD, hypervigilance, emotional dysregulation, and the lingering effects of stress, giving you tools to feel safe, grounded, and resilient again.

Depression, anxiety, people-pleasing, and cycles of anger often stem from unconscious patterns we developed early in life. This therapy helps you identify the behaviours that keep you stuck, understand their roots, and begin creating healthier ways of relating to yourself and others.

Feelings of shame, guilt, or self-criticism often come from younger parts of us that never felt fully seen or loved. Inner child work helps reconnect with those parts, heal old wounds, and build a stronger sense of self-worth and compassion. This can be especially supportive for those struggling with anxiety, perfectionism, or unresolved sadness.

Drawing on Carl Jungโ€™s work, this approach explores dreams, archetypes, and the โ€œshadowโ€ (the hidden aspects of self). It can be deeply meaningful for those experiencing identity struggles, existential questions, or a sense of disconnection from purpose. By making the unconscious conscious, you can discover new meaning and alignment in your life.

Session Costs & Payments

All sessions are conducted via Telehealth and are payable 24 hours prior to your scheduled appointment.

Because counselling is often a journey rather than a quick fix, I recognise the importance of consistency over time. For long-term clients, I offer a sliding scale to support ongoing work. This is especially important when exploring patterns, behaviours, and the deeper layers of self โ€” as real change takes time, reflection, and gentle persistence.

My focus is on creating a space where therapy feels sustainable, accessible, and supportive of your long-term growth toward your authentic self.

How Sessions Are Conducted

All counselling sessions are conducted via secure Telehealth for your comfort and convenience. Each session runs for 60 minutes and is tailored to meet your individual needs.

For couples counselling, I begin by meeting with each person individually. This allows me to hear your story, understand your background, and explore the unique patterns you bring into the relationship, without interruption or influence from your partner.

Once weโ€™ve established a solid understanding of each individual, we then move into couple sessions together. This process ensures that both voices are heard, underlying dynamics are recognised, and the relationship work is approached with clarity and balance.

Whether you are coming as an individual or as a couple, my goal is to create a safe, supportive space where you can explore your challenges, recognise your patterns, and move toward deeper self-awareness and stronger connections.
